What's your excuse?| Are your excuses holding you back from reaching your full potential?

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses
As human beings, we have the occasional tendency to make excuses. Uh... who am I kidding? We make excuses all day, every day. They come to us, so naturally "I'm so tired now, I do not have time for this", "There is nothing I can do about it, it's out of my control", "Nobody cares about it anyway, why bother?". See? What did I tell you? Easy!

We are masters at making excuses, anything will do, from our genes to our upbringing and from our particular circumstances to how we are treated by others, we all have a build-in tendency to make excuses. And my question is...

Are these excuses keeping us from taking action and creating a life of purpose, passion and pleasure for ourselves?

During my --rather short-- coaching practice, I have already worked with people that keep their passion, dreams and aspirations, skillfully wrapped up in millions of sensible excuses. People that feel trapped in their own lives, immobilised by the impossibility of their dreams.

I, on the other hand, believe that all of us are naturally creative, resourceful and destined to experience happiness and success, in our own, unique personal manner and it is my job, to hold that belief and create for my clients, the safe space they need, to positively transform their life and become their most magnificent self.

Here are some of the most commonly used excuses, I came across this far.
I do not Have the time. Lets get one thing clear, you will never have enough time until you consciously decide to make the time. You can start by waking up earlier each morning, or dedicating a couple of hours per week to work on your passion.

I don't know where to start. Well, most of us don't but that should not be an excuse for you to simply give up before you even begin. Start small, do some research, hire a coach or find a mentor.

I do not have a relevant degree. Newsflash, more than 50% of millionaire entrepreneurs never even finished college. Passion driven people become successful people, whether they have a degree or not.

I am too old to start now. Really? Grandma Moses didn't begin to paint until she was 76! Yes, 76 and that was when she started, because she actually became famous way in her nineties! When it comes to fulfilling your dreams there is no such thing as old.

I do not have enough money. Not today maybe but that can change. Start saving money. Keep your day job until your passion starts paying the bills, crowd-fund your idea. Anything goes, be creative and persistent and the money will come.

Even a mountain can be moved, one shovel at a time. So, what's your excuse for not pursuing your dreams? [tweet this]

No matter what's your big excuse, the truth is, people from all walks of life, overcome obstacles, defy barriers and beat the odds, on their way to success and achievement, every day. And some of them, during that spine-tingling journey, also manage to change the world for the better.

Whenever I need inspiration to keep pursuing my dreams, to not let my current circumstances discourage me from going after the life I know I deserve, these people come to mind. These extraordinary individuals who despite their lack of resources, poor health, financial status or social standing, somehow knew that life is too precious to be wasted on excuses and decided to go for it, anyway and reach for the stars.

  • He lost his hearing at the age of 26 and yet he wrote the greatest symphonies in human history without being able to hear any of it. He helped shape the future of music. His name: Ludwig van Beethoven.
  • She was deaf and blind by the age of two. Despite her disabilities, she became the first deafblind person, to ever graduate from college and one of the most well-known American authors. Her name: Helen Keller.
  • He didn't speak until the age of 4, did not read until the age of 7, he was dyslexic and he even failed his college entrance exams. He went on to win a Nobel Prize and is now known as the father of modern physics. His name: Albert Einstein.
  • She was born prematurely and contracted infantile paralysis (polio) by the age of 4. Her left leg was paralyzed until the age of 9 and doctors said she would never be able to walk unsupported. She went on to win three Olympic Gold metals in track and field. Her name: Wilma Rudolph

I couldn’t resist commenting Nichole and eventhough you already know my excuse, here it is ONCE again.

I don’t have enough time.

Your post made me realize that I have the exact same amount of time as A.Einstein had. 24 hours in a day.

WoW, I sure have a lot of ground to cover...

But I am currently in the process of planning my days and making sure I spend at least 5h a week on my "secret project" so, I guess that's good enough. Right?

This makes so much sense to me. I always make excuses for myself not getting in share. In the winter is too cold to go running, in the summer it's too hot. In the morning my body feels lazy, in the evening its tired. Excuse, excuses, excuses. I need to do what's right for me. Thank you

I am always rather enthusiastic at the beginning of each goal, keeping myself motivated, inspired by my own dream and then I just back out right in the middle of my effort. I simply cannot commit for a long period on a single project. Distractions from every day life are plenty and I know i have the power to make it work, I somehow forget it and just stop.

And you are not the only one Jounda. So, don't beat yourself too hard, girl. Maybe this post will help you keep your motivation high, and if it doesn't, you can always email me for support. - http://www.take-ten.com/1/post/2013/03/stay-motivated-and-transform-your-life-one-day-at-a-time-nicholes-5-tips-on-keeping-yourself-motivated.html -
