There is an old saying that tells us that time is money, which is very much the case of the average solopreneur. One of the hardest tasks a small business owner has to face is effectively managing their time so that they can properly build their business and make money. | |
It doesn’t have to be that way, though, especially if you follow these 5 time management tips...
5 Time Management Tips Every Solopreneur Should Know
Set Your Priorities Straight. Managing time effectively comes from understanding what is important to your business and what can wait. If you feel like you are putting out small fires, all day long, take some time each morning to set your priorities straight and tackle the most important tasks first. Will it bring in more bacon? Put it on top of your list. Is it something you’ve been avoiding forever? Put it on top of your list. Is it something that will make your clients over-the-top excited about doing business with you? Put it on top of your list, buttercups!
Overcome Perfectionism. If you are aiming for perfection, in everything you do, while running your small business, now, might be a great time for you to stop. Being perfect in business is not an option, especially if your perfectionism goes hand in hand with his dear friend, procrastination. Rings any bells? Try setting a time limit for each of the tasks from your list and stick to it. Sometimes, getting something done, is more important than wasting your time overanalysing every tiny little detail.

Outsource The Excess. Now, lets see, is a lady solopreneur reading this post or a freeking Oompa Loompa? Are you feeling exhausted, trying to run every aspect of your small business by yourself? Newsflash love, being a solopreneur doesn’t mean you do everything alone. No ma’am it doesn’t. Make a list of all the business tasks you are working on every day and split them in major categories, such as Online Marketing activities, Administrative Tasks, Product Development and Delivery etc. Circle the ones that give you difficulty implementing or that you simply just don’t like doing and try outsourcing them. Freeing more time for you to work on what is really important feels liberating.
Set A Time To Work. And stick to it. You are working from home, you might even wear your pyjamas while building your little empire too, but when it comes to focusing on work you need to have a schedule and stick to it no matter what. Yes, that particularly difficult level on Candy Crush Saga may be calling you, but it’s important to separate work and play as much as possible. Set specific work hours and save the candy bashing for your free time, which includes coffee and lunch breaks throughout the day.
Learn to say No. Since you don’t have someone to call your boss, everyone automatically seems to assume that you have all the time in the world to run errands, help them out with personal matters {during typical business hours} or pick your brain for things you would normally charge for. That’s when knowing how to say “NO!” comes in handy. The exclamation mark there should tell you how defiantly you should put that word out there when needed. In business, there is always going to be someone who wants a slice of your time. If you don’t have any to give, let them know.
