STOP PROCRASTINATING YOUR PRODUCT OR SERVICE LAUNCH | overcome perfectionism

4/11/2014

I know how putting off some of the most important tasks of your day feels like.

I know the feeling of shame that comes when even though you know exactly what you should be doing, you end up aimlessly surfing the web or killing time on social media, for far too long.

I know the guilt that comes after the business day is behind you and you still carry that burning task in your head, thinking you should have gone for it already.

I have been stuck in that back hole where procrastination and perfectionism meet one another and I know how easy it is to get sucked in it and lose your sense of clarity and focus, comfortably wrapped in a blanket of inaction.

Kick Perfectionism | Make Peace with Change | Blog Post | TakeTen Coaching
I do. I really do.

Here’s how the story plays out for most of us, heart-driven entrepreneurs, when it comes to launching a new product, service, course, it doesn't really matter what it is, to be honest.

AT THE BEGINNING…
You are terrified of change.  You know your life will change after the launch.  That’s probably what's stopping you from hitting “Publish” in the first place. It's easier to stay where you are. It feels safe and you are willing to miss out on greatness, just so that you can hold on to that awkward safety, for a little bit longer.

BESIDES…
Your product or service is majorly lacking, in one way or another. Nothing is ever good enough for you. You have unrealistic expectations for yourself, your team, your products, your services, you name it. You are constantly preparing and you can’t seem to bring yourself to launch your new product, or write that proposal, no matter what.

AND THEN…
Your “what-ifs” are killing your enthusiasm. When everything is ready to go, and your product or service is one click away from being published and shared with your tribe, the “what-ifs” enter the scene, killing your buzz and stopping you in your tracks. You are suddenly scared of being judged by your peers, ridiculed by your clients, laugher at even. What if people hate you? What if they put you down? What if they question your authority to create such a product or service? What if?

WHICH LEADS TO…
Throwing too many, pity-parties for yourself. You’re always thinking of how you’ll never be good enough, savvy enough, happy enough or satisfied enough. You work on creating something awesome, only to spend the next weeks beating yourself up about it, thinking how you will never be able to pull it off.

Sounds just about right, doesn’t it?

Well, luckily enough, I also know, how liberating it feels when you actually push through your fears, bypass your perfectionism, get rid of your procrastination habit and actually put yourself out there, take action and follow your bliss.

That’s why I want to help you push through, whatever it is that’s keeping you from launching your new product, service, course, anything really.

Kick perfectionism to the curb. Reclaim your inner awesome.[tweet this]

So, here goes:
1.

2.

3.

4.

Make peace with change.
We all change, we grow, it’s part of life, it’s part of who we are as humans. Our needs change, our dreams evolve, new possibilities emerge. Take baby steps to pave your new path, if you have to, but don’t keep yourself locked in “what was”.

End your pursuit of perfectionism.
Even if your product or service doesn’t seem quite perfect to you, there are people out there that can benefit from it, right now. So, kick perfectionism to the curb and click submit, publish, send. Start before you're ready. There is no perfect time, you just have to dive in.

Accept the inevitability of making mistakes.
What if everything goes smoothly? What if launching this product or service is the best thing you have done in a while? What if people love it, exactly the way it is? Don’t let the illusion of fear, stop you from testing the boundaries of possibility, accept the inevitability of making mistakes and go for it anyway.

Reclaim your inner awesome.

And girl, don’t even get me started on the pity parties. You are worthy of love, joy, abundance, fulfilment. So, don’t sell yourself short, stretch your comfort zone and reclaim your inner awesome.
You already have exactly what you need to succeed wildly in your business and live your bliss.

I want you to be the girl who sticks it out and makes her dreams come true.

I did it. And I know you can do it too. So, let’s get moving already.

Make Today Count.

It's so funny that I stumbled up on this article! I was just talking about this very topic with an Entrepreneur group. It's so overwhelming in the beginning, you want your vision to translate perfectly! But sometimes it's good to just step back and continue making progress. Thank you so much for sharing this! :)

I would have to say the number one thing holding me back is my fear of change, like you said. I'm worried about the responses I receive, so I wait, telling myself I'm not ready yet, or I just need to tweak this a little bit more. I think starting before you are ready is the best advice ever given to me. Thanks for the great tips!

You are welcome Krystal!
Start before you are ready, that's what I keep telling myself when I find myself sucked in the black hole of perfectionism. Oh, and "Feel the fear and do it anyway" is also a favourite!

Oh my! Ironic that I just found this blog. Earlier today I finally hit the publish button on the page that lets people actually buy my product. I've been blogging about it for a long time while I "fine-tuned" the details. It's been in the writing-revision-procrastination stage for weeks Thanks for the boost (albeit after the fact). I will be signing up for your newsletter.

Oh Beth, I can;t even tell you how many times I've fallen for that in the past. Not anymore, though... I even created a personal affirmation on that:

"My goal is to be better today, than I was yesterday. To improve myself, to enrich my life. I am running my own race. I compete with no one else but myself. This is my journey."

Have wonder-full day

I love this.
I love the expression 'don't let the perfect get in the way of the good' and I think it's so true. Do what you can right now, and get it out into the world. You can improve it later. x

Great tips! I've recently given myself the talk about letting go of perfectionism. The thing is, I'm not even a perfectionist, I was just using it as an excuse not to take the next step. I love how you say "You already have exactly what you need to succeed wildly in your business"- Amen to that!

That's an Aha moment, right there!

Oh, geesh, it's like you're in my head! This is definitely a post I needed to read this week as I've been procrastinating on my program creation in B-School. I know I have what it takes to do it and do it well, and yet those little negatives have been niggling at my brain! Thanks for the boost of inspiration and motivation! :D

Thanks Nicole form the excellent article. I was procrastinating for a long time waiting the right time to undertake the risk for my new venture. What a waste of time, realy! Now, I do not really care about perfection. I know that things will never be perfect, always there is room for improvement. In a few days my new venture goes online and I believe I will do great.
