What I Have Learned... | Chunks of Wisdom from America's Top Coaches

I love reading books and with my summer vacation just around the corner, the rhythm with which I am buying and downloading them on my ipad, has increased, lets just say, by A LOT.

Reading has become an integral part of my personal development and whenever I find myself lost inside a great book and feel just a little bit of genius rub off on me, I get super excited.

Self Development Books | Life Coaching

Reading a self development book is the most enjoyable way to soak up some positive energy and keep yourself motivated.

So, today I am going to share with you a little bit of that magic by posting here my favorite excerpts, from one of the latest books I bought and hungrily consumed: "Simply Brilliant" written by the founder of Coach University, Thomas J. Leonard.

The book has been around for quite a while, it was published back in 1999 and it basically is a brilliant collection of more than 1.800 small chunks of wisdom, from America's top personal and business Coaches.

I found the book more than just inspiring and probably that's why it looks like it has been through a meat grader, with sticky notes, highlighted paragraphs, underlined quotes and bold exclamation points, from cover to cover.

Books are a uniquely portable magic. Stephen King[tweet this]

The following quotes got me thinking and I have since used them to develop, change and appreciate different aspects of my life. Hopefully they will do the same for you:
I Have Learned...

  1. … that anger is hurt turned outward.
  2. … that the greatest power is the power of choice.
  3. … that even if I choose not to decide I have still made a choice.
  4. … that all emotional pain stems from resistance and a sense of what “should” be.
  5. … that the best ideas come to me when I’m engaged in an activity I love.
  6. … that courage only shows up in the presence, not in the absence, of fear.
  7. … that being surrounded with people who bring joy is a form of extreme self care.
  8. … that people who are truly happy have stopped trying to figure it all out.
  9. … that people are ready to love us more than we generally allow them to.
  10. … to trust my instincts — they are usually right.
  11. … that when I am at my most vulnerable, I am most ready to grow.
  12. … that our body screams the pain to which we don’t give voice
  13. … that I can learn and grow from everyone I meet.
  14. … that most problems are created out of boredom.
  15. … that when I stop searching for something it really does show up.
  16. … that most regrets come from the things I DIDN’T do.
  17. … that obstacles are visible only when I take my eyes off the goal.
  18. … that people change when they want to change and not one moment sooner.
  19. … that money is a lousy way of keeping score.
  20. … that the main way to express love is to show attention.
  21. … that action is the antidote to fear and depression.
  22. … that today’s risk is tomorrow’s piece of cake.

I keep this book on my night stand and those small peals of wisdom help me gain a new perspective over things I often struggle with and keep me motivated whenever I need it the most.

In fact most personal development books do just that. So, this summer, I encourage you to find a book that will inspire and empower you to keep going after your dreams, a book that will help you grow and further develop your life vision, a book that will become your mentor and advisor.

I think my favourite one is

… that most regrets come from the things I DIDN’T do!

We only live once so we might as well make the ride interesting enough!

"That our body screams the pain to which we don’t give voice"
I know this to be true from personal experience.

And still you have the ability to recognise and appreciate it for what it brought into your life...
I'm so proud of you Alie.
