Start the New Year with a clean slate

12/15/2014

I love the feeling I get right before I welcome a new year. There is magic in the air. A feeling of excitement. An opportunity to put an end to whatever’s not serving me anymore {like those sinfully delicious triple chocolate cakes} and embrace more of what is. An opportunity to start the new year with a clean slate.

My head is buzzing with possibilities, ideas and plans and my heart skips a beat.

Yet my number one reason for loving the beginning of each year, is that I’m not alone in this state of excitement.

Start the New Year with a clean slate.

You see even though new year’s definitely has its own unique appeal, I’m one of those {weird} people, who reinvent themselves, lives, and goals every chance they get. {it can be at my birthday, or in September, maybe a good plain ordinary Monday will do just fine, as well} only this time, I get to share my enthusiasm without getting that “are you serious?” look from my friends and family, cause, well they just don’t get it.

But this is the time of year, even people who feel that their lives have taken on a direction of the ordinary and uninspiring, people who in the name of feeling safe, have been sidetracked into a very strict routine that makes their days seem colourless and plagued by a sense of repetitiveness, even those people are willing to take a stand and get out of the rut they’re in. And I just love that!

Ditch your routine & start the New Year with a clean slate.

And really, it’s so easy to get stuck in a rut, sometimes without even realising it. It all starts when we begin to do things as part of a routine without even thinking about it, only to find ourselves, months or even years later stuck in a routine, that’s hard to get out of, as it has now become second nature.

End 2014 and start 2015 with a clean slate using this 5 step formula.[tweet this]

Bringing a sense of excitement back to our own lives and breaking out of the cycle becomes so much easier this time of year, so I invite you to begin by recognizing the symptoms of being in a rut and then continue with finding creative ways to bring a sense of enthusiasm back into your life.

Are you stuck in a rut?

One of the classic telltale signs of being in a rut is a drastic fall in energy levels.

Things just don’t seem to motivate and inspire you like they used to. It may be time to start taking on new challenges.

You may also find that life has become a continuous battle, where everything is an uphill struggle.

Nothing looks simple anymore and you've become very resistant to any change, or even frightened by the idea.

If that’s the case, here is your chance to break the cycle and prevent yourself from getting into a rut in 2015 plus get inspired enough to bring a sense of pizzazz back into your life.

Start 2015, with a clean slate!

1. The first step of getting out of the rut is to embrace your “stuck-ness.” Realize that it’s entirely OK to get stuck and that sometimes the very notion of being stuck can actually be a blessing in disguise. Ask yourself, what you can do to move on?

2.  Take an afternoon off to reflect on your wins for the past year. What did you achieve? What are you proud of? Read through your business calendar or personal journal to find those wonderful moments, or achievements. This simple exercise will help you focus on the positive and move forward without losing momentum.

3. Start from within. Give yourself the time to take a walk in the park and ask yourself vital questions about where you are in life and what you would like to accomplish. Be sure to ask the right questions that get to the heart of the matter. Ask yourself, what do I need to stop doing in 2015, in order to have a better chance of being happier or more successful?

4. Practice gratitude. Take a few deep breaths and make a note of what you can be grateful for, anything from good health to having a roof over your head will do. Fill your heart with love by being thankful for your blessings. You can also ask yourself what would you be most grateful if it were to happen during 2015. This exercise perfectly combines the power of visualisation with the magic of gratitude.

5. Find your inner polestar, your personal point of reference, your intention for 2015. Mine was “Passionate Focus” for 2014 and it helped me beat my Shiny Object Syndrome and stay focused on my passion for coaching people out of inbetweenity and into clarity & empowerment.

So, if you have somehow found yourself stuck this year, give your routine a real shake, this December. Cut its roots now and add a new dimension of value into your life. Oh, and for the love of God, please surround yourself with the right people who can inspire you to be your best.

How are you laying the foundations for the life you want, in 2015?

I can feel your excitement! I'm starting the new year by owning what I created in 2014, releasing what I'm done with and making room for all the new that brewing.
